'Planning' and 'fun' do not usually go together but learning how to put these two in a basket can be surprisingly.... fun!
Firstly, lets lay out the necessary structure:
what is the objective of the activity?
who and how old are the target audience?
what is the budget?
when is the best day & time to go?
After all those years planning for a day out, 'fun for the kids' does not always take precedence. Purpose, flexibility and coincidence is the formula that seemed to go hand-in-hand. Let me give an example:
Last term, our K2s focus on their preparation to Primary 1. It comes with learning about money-handling, packing their bags, practicing to order their food and being responsible for their Ez-Link cards. For our Project Conclusion, it would be perfect if we had a visit to an actual primary school and do all the things we've practiced. But alas, we missed the open-house by a hair!
Plan B: Let's go Student A's father's bakery shop for a day!

✓what is the objective of the activity? (Real-life experience)
✓ who and how old are the target audience? (K2 students)
✓ what is the budget? (nothing, free)
✓ when is the best day & time to go? (check with Student A's parents)
We do not get to define what's fun and what's not. Nobody likes a party-pooper.
And..... you've guessed it. It's the process!! The interaction and the learning process was what made this term's Project Inquiry fun! Be shameless to admit mistakes. Children needs to see teachers are humans too!
